This session covers the basics of distributed-memory parallel computing with MPI. After introducing environment management, point-to-point communication, and collective communication routines, hands on exercises will reinforce the ideas and provide a few simple examples that can function as building blocks for your future parallel codes.
Participants will learn the essentials of distributed-memory parallel computing using MPI.
Basic facility with the bash command-line is required (including understnding what environment variables are and how to set their values). Programming experience with C, C++, or Fortran is also required.
Participants in any PICSciE virtual workshop need a Princeton Zoom account. For this session, users should also have an account on the Adroit cluster (another cluster like Tiger or Della is ok), and they should confirm that they can SSH into Adroit at least 48 hours beforehand. Details on all of the above can be found in the advance setup guide for PICSciE virtual workshops.
